CB
Radios
If you are tired of being bored while you drive on the road, or if you simply want to start
talking on the airwaves to other people, then you may want to get a Cb radio. Cb radios have been around for awhile
now, but they are still great in the way that they allow you to talk to people who are living in different
areas than you. Or, they allow you to talk to people who are driving on the highway close to you.
If you are planning on buying cb radio equipment for your home or vehicle, then there are a few
things to think about. First of all, what kind of Cb radio are you going to get? You could get one that is of a
name brand, or you could get a more off-branded version. Either of these will work fine for you, but there are
advantages to both. For a name brand, you will get years of high quality use, a great warranty, and a name that you
can trust for tech support...but at the same time, you will pay a bit extra for all of it.
Now, on the other hand, if you buy an off branded cb radio, you will pay a lot less, but will
also not get quite as good of a warranty or the security of a name brand. So, it is a tradeoff that is really up to
you. What would you rather have? More money in your pocket, or a trusted name?
Another thing that you will have to think about is what type of cb radio equipment you
want. In general, there are two basic types to choose from; there are hand-held, or dash-mount cb radios. Hand-held
cb radios are exactly that....hand-held. They are small enough to put in your pocket and to carry around with you.
They are usually run on batteries. You can usually pay a little bit more and get one that is rechargeable, or you
can simply put some batteries in it yourself.
A dash mount cb radio is a cb radio that consists of a mainframe body, and a transmitter deviceā¦
usually attached via cord. These are more common, especially for vehicles. They allow you to attach the body of the
cb to the dashboard (or elsewhere in your vehicle), allowing you to transmit with the attached microphone
device.
If you are planning on taking it with you on foot, then you will probably want a handheld cb
radio. However, if you are just planning on keeping it in your vehicle, then a dash mount will probably be better
for you. Again, it really just depends upon what you are looking for.
But, no matter what you get, make sure that your cb radio has 40 channels, and that it is a
two-way. This is necessary for basic transmit-receiver use, and you will be glad that you got 40 channels. Cb
radios have a much longer range than most walkie-talkies, particularly if you use a
CB linear amplifier (where permitted), which will come in handy for those long trips.
